I have had 4 pairs of these sunglasses and they are the best I have ever put on. Raybans are a joke and only a name like many sunglasses, but you are getting the best technology out there in my opinion.
The 580's block the IR wave length and provide excellent polarization. The frames wrap around your eyes in a snug fit that allows no light leakage from the the sides. The frames are very light considering the lenses are heavy because they are real glass. There is nothing wrong with these glasses, it is very hard to scratch these glasses. The only thing I would recommend are holes at the end of the frames to attach neck laces like the Jubol Explorer glasses, since most people would put laces on so they do not fall off or to let them temporarily hang when they are off. The ear piece are hard to put on laces that are tubes and both the loops and the tubes eventually wear and fall off because...Read more By This review is from: Costa Del Mar Fathom 580 Sunglasses (Eyewear) I own two pairs of these glasses and have had multiple issues with rubber on the frames melting off. I have returned the fathoms multiple time to have the frames fixed. during the long process i bought a second pair for my job-regret). Great lenses, but Costa needs to realize rubber will deteriorate extermly fast. This is the explanation I was given from Costa Del Mar as to why my frames keep breaking down.i'm sorry to hear about your frames. We do have styles without the hydrolite material, so there are other options. If they tend to disintegrate quickly, it may be because of the acidity (PH) level in your sweat. That, combined with sunscreen, bug spray, etc., and it can wear quickly. Yet, on some people with lower levels of acidity, it may not wear for a very long time. -Email From Costa Del Mar Rep I WOULD NOT SUPPORT A COMPANY WHO CANT BACK UP THERE MODO, ADVENTURE "SALTWATER & FRESHWATER". Each pair has its individual purpose.....at least that's how I justify buying multiple pairs (because I love them so much). I have owned Oakleys, Ray Bans, and Maui Jims in the past and Costas reign supreme. The Fathom Sunglasses with the Mirror Lenses are very comfortable on my face and perform exceptionally well in the harsh maritime environment where I work. While I do love the style of these glasses, I must admit that the Costas are not quite as "stylish" as the Maui Jims; however, when it comes to performance - especially on the water - Costa Del Mar is untouchable. The Blue Mirror Lenses do a phenomenal job at filtering the yellow light that kills a person's ability to see on/through the water. Also, glare from the sun is virtually eliminated with these sunglasses. I have read a number of negative reviews stating that these sunglasses fall apart fairly easily and that the warranty...Read more |
