Amazon.com Product Review
With a bold design and an optimal fit for larger faces, the Smith Shelter sunglass fuses style and performance in a package that's built on Smith's industry-leading technologies. The Shelter is outfitted with a Grilamid TR-90 frame that serves as the gold standard for active users, with hydrophilic Megol on the nose and temple pads to help ensure a comfortable nonslip fit. The carbonic Tapered Lens Technology (TLT) lenses, meanwhile, are contoured so that light travels through without distortion--a major improvement over many other sunglass models. Carbonic lenses are also the most impact-resistant lenses on the market, with an anti-scratch coating that keeps them looking fresh through the years. And wearers will love the subtle accents, which include a custom logo plaque and thick, durable arms. As with all Smith sunglasses, the Shelter is backed by the company's legendary lifetime warranty.
About Smith Optics Based in Sun Valley, Idaho, Smith Optics, Inc. was founded in 1965 with the creation of the first-ever goggle featuring a sealed thermal lens and breathable vent foam. In the early years, founder Dr. Bob Smith, an orthodontist by trade, made goggles by hand using dental tools, foam, and glue. Before he struck a deal for manufacturing of Smith goggles in the late 60s, Smith would often trade his creations for lift tickets. These early prototypes were usually manufactured by Smith and friends around the kitchen table.
Building on that goggle heritage and extending its expertise, Smith Sport Optics has gone on to set the standard for high-performance eyewear and goggles. Innovations over the years include the Fog-X anti-fog coating, PMT Perforated Membrane Technology lens ventilation system, patented Turbo C.A.M. Constant Air Management system, patented Regulator adjustable lens ventilation system, patented Roll Off's film advance system for motocross, patented ODS (Ocular Docking System) prescription insert, and patented Slider series sunglasses, the most innovative interchangeable lens sunglass available.
Today, Smith Optics has become synonymous with innovative, durable, top-quality products in the eyewear and goggle market. The company is also recognized for its unparalleled team roster, which boasts some of the top names in biking, motocross, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, and wakeboarding. Like many other companies, Smith utilizes team input as a key element of new product introductions. In addition, Smith athletes are actively involved in the development process for performance testing and coloration selection.
Smith products are sold worldwide in more than 50 countries through specialty and sporting goods stores. From Smith's distortion-free Tapered Lens Technology to the versatility of the Slider Series, with its patented, interchangeable lens system, its devotion to excellence, innovation and style has made Smith goggles and sunglasses the choice of action-sport athletes worldwide. Smith products represent authentic sports gear, researched and tested by a dedicated group of employees and athletes that live and breathe the lifestyle.

I like these sunglasses so much that this is my second pair of Shelters. Originally I owned the tortoise frame with polar brown lens, then I purchased the pair with the brown frame and the polarchromic lens. I absolutely love both of them. I bought the polarchromic Shelter's for the sole purpose of having the changing lens tint. My only minor complaint is I don't feel that the lens get quite dark enough. They don't get quite as dark as my pair with the polar brown lens. Like I said it is a pretty minor complaint and I haven't found myself squinting while being in bright conditions. The frame of the Shelters is large, so it is designed for large faces. My head is pretty big and these sunglasses are very comfortable, they do not squish the side of my face like many pairs do. Additionally there is a rubber pad on the nose section of the sunglasses which works well to keep your shades on your face during activities. Smith has a great warranty, covering the sunglasses for life...Read more

These are beautiful sunglasses, great style, with wide arms to block more sun. Made with quality materials but mine came slightly defective with no case. I've never purchased a very expensive pair of sunglasses that didn't come with a nice big case. I know Smith glasses come with an awesome Smith sunglass case because my surfer friends are fans of Smith and theirs all came with cases. REI sells Smith sunglasses and they told me all of theirs come with cases. This may have been a mistake but you should check on this before you order. Of course, amazon is fantastic and took care of me.
